Batlló House

It was designed by the renowned Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí and is considered one of his masterpieces. Built between 1904 and 1906, it stands out for its eclectic style and striking façade, which reflects Gaudí’s distinctive style.

The house was commissioned by Josep Batlló i Casanovas to be used as a family home. The site had previously been occupied by an older property that had been demolished to make way for the new construction project. Gaudí took inspiration from both traditional Catalan architecture and Art Nouveau styles when designing the house; this combination created a truly one-of-a-kind structure that has become an iconic part of Barcelona’s skyline.

One of the most impressive features of Batlló House is its colourful façade, which consists of curved stone walls decorated with ceramic tiles in various shades of blue and green. The roof also features several irregularly shaped skylights that allow natural light into the interior spaces below while providing additional ventilation during hot summer months. Inside, there are multiple levels connected via staircases adorned with intricate wrought iron railings – another example of Gaudi’s signature style at work here.

In addition to being admired for its aesthetic beauty, Batlló House also holds historical significance in Catalonia due to its association with some important figures from Catalan culture such as poet Joan Maragall and painter Ramon Casas who were frequent visitors here during their lifetimes.
