Located in the Albaicín district, this viewpoint offers spectacular views of the entire city and its surrounding landscape. It also has a rich history that dates back to Moorish times.
The Viewpoint of Placeta de Carvajales was originally constructed by the Moors in the 11th century as part of their defence system against Christian forces. The original structure consisted of three towers which were built to guard and protect Granada from enemy attacks. These towers still stand today and are visible from various points around Granada.
Today, visitors can enjoy breathtaking views from this spot overlooking both old and new parts of Granada – including La Alhambra Palace complex, Sacromonte Abbey, San Miguel Alto Church and many more landmarks throughout the cityscape below them. On clear days one can even see across to the Sierra Nevada mountain range or down towards the Costa Tropical coastline on the Mediterranean Sea.
The best time to visit Placeta de Carvajales is during sunset, when all these sights become illuminated with warm colours, creating a truly magical atmosphere at this unique place in Spain’s south coast region Andalucía. Visitors should also note that while there are no official entrance fees here; it is recommended they make donations if they wish, so help maintain the historic site for future generations to appreciate its beauty too.
