Located in the picturesque town of Rothenburg, this museum offers visitors an insight into criminal justice during the Middle Ages. With over 500 artefacts from the period on display, it’s easy to see why so many people flock here each year.
The museum focuses on crime and punishment during the era of knights and castles. Visitors can learn about various types of medieval laws and punishments that were used to keep people in line back then. The museum also features interactive exhibits such as a torture chamber where you can experience what it was like to be tried by a court or punished with brutal methods such as branding or flogging. It also has wax figures depicting famous criminals throughout history, including Jack the Ripper and William Wallace – giving visitors an even more vivid look at life during those times.
One particularly interesting exhibit is “The Last Judgment” which shows off how criminals were judged by their peers according to ancient German law codes known as Lex Salica (Law of Salic). This exhibit includes authentic objects from trials held centuries ago, along with detailed descriptions explaining how these ancient laws worked in practice.
